Food, play and the useful things to know before you go

A family outing gets much easier when the children have space to move and the adults do not have to compromise on the meal. That is the basic idea behind JoyJozi in Dunkeld: a proper restaurant wrapped around a large indoor and outdoor play experience.

If you are visiting for the first time, this guide covers the questions that matter most – how the play session works, whether you need to book, what to expect from the food, where to park and how to plan the day without overthinking it.

Start with the meal, not the logistics

JoyJozi is designed as a restaurant and play destination in one. You do not need to treat lunch and the play area as two unrelated activities. For a normal family visit, the simplest approach is to reserve a table, arrive ready for the children to play, and allow enough time for everyone to settle in rather than rushing through the meal.

For busy weekends, school holidays and special dates, booking ahead is the safer option. Dineplan is the quickest way to check live table availability. If you are trying to visit on the same day, check there first rather than assuming the restaurant is full or empty.

How the play session works

The current general play fee is R100 per child for three hours, for ages 1 to 12. Adults are not charged a separate play admission fee. The venue includes a mix of indoor and outdoor spaces, so children with very different energy levels can find something that suits them.

Younger children have more contained areas to explore, while bigger kids can move between climbing, slides, gardens, action spaces and other active play. That variety is useful for families with siblings who are not the same age or who do not want to do the same thing for three hours.

The food is part of the reason to go

JoyJozi is not positioned as a play centre with a token snack counter. The restaurant is meant to work for adults as well as children, with breakfast, pizzas, salads, larger plates, kids options and drinks that make it possible to stay for a proper meal.

Where to park and how to find JoyJozi

JoyJozi is at 51 Eastwood Road, Dunkeld, Johannesburg. Underground parking is available at Oxford Parks. After turning into Eastwood Road from Oxford Road, use the first underground parking entrance on the left.

The Dunkeld location is close to Rosebank and convenient for families coming from areas such as Hyde Park, Parkhurst, Parktown North, Melrose and Sandton.

A few practical questions

Do adults pay the play fee?

No. The general play fee is charged per child.

Do I need a separate play booking?

For a normal family visit, start with your restaurant booking. The play experience is part of the same visit.

Are play sessions timed?

Yes. The current general play fee covers three hours.

Can I arrive without a booking?

You can try, but bookings are recommended. Dineplan is the easiest way to check current table availability.

What days is JoyJozi open?

Trading hours can change around school holidays and special dates. Check current Dineplan availability or the JoyJozi website before travelling.

Where can I see the current menu?

Use the Menu page on the JoyJozi website so you are not relying on an older PDF or social post.

Make a day of it

The easiest JoyJozi visit is not the one packed with the most planning. Book the table, dress the kids for active play, allow enough time for the three-hour session, and choose the meal that suits your day. The appeal is that parents and children can want different things from the outing and still enjoy the same place.
